The Centre of Christian-Muslim Understanding & Partnership (CCMUP) was honored to welcome Dr. Ahmad Dallal, President of the American University in Cairo (AUC), on Wednesday, August 28, 2024.

Dr. Dallal was received by Bishop Dr. Mouneer Anis, Archbishop Emeritus and Director of CCMUP; Rev. Dr. Matthew Anderson, Director of Academic Studies; Dr. Ismail Abdallah, Head of Islamic Stuides in Foreign Languages Department at Al-Azhar University; Mr. Kareem Gerges, Director of International Partnerships & Communications, Dcn. Samir Daoud, Research Fellow, and Mr. Ramez Bekhiet, Community Initiatives Coordinator.

During the meeting, the Centre’s representatives shared their interfaith peace-building initiatives and the historical background of their interfaith work. Dr. Ahmad, a renowned scholar of Islamic studies, shared his own experiences and expressed his deep interest in advancing interfaith dialogue and cooperation, particularly since he is a respected scholar of Islamic studies.

The discussion focused on potential collaborations between AUC and the Centre to foster interfaith peace and understanding, in Egypt and beyond.

Dr. Dallal is the former dean of Georgetown University in Qatar and served as provost at the American University of Beirut (AUB) from 2009 to 2015. A prominent scholar of Islamic studies, he has taught at AUB, Stanford University, Yale University, Smith College and Georgetown University, where he also served as chair of the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies.
