Al-Azhar Al-Sharif is one of the largest and oldest Islamic institutions in the world, and has been a centre of Sunni thought since its foundation in 970 CE. It is the seat of the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Professor Ahmed At-Tayyeb. Al-Azhar Al-Sharif currently runs thousands of educational institutions across Egypt.
