On Thursday, December 12, 2024, the Centre of Christian Muslim Understanding & Partnership (CCMUP) took part in the Saint Lucia celebration organized by the Swedish Embassy in Cairo. This event represents one of Sweden’s most significant cultural traditions.
The Saint Lucia celebration, alongside the Midsummer Festival, is a cornerstone of Swedish heritage. It symbolizes life in ancient rural communities, reflecting the contrast between darkness and light, cold and warmth, giving the occasion its unique and distinctive character.
Representing CCMUP at the event were Bishop Dr. Mouneer Anis (Director of the Centre), Rev. Dr. Matthew Anderson (Director of Academic Studies), and Mr. Kareem Gerges (Director of International Partnerships and Communications).
Mr. Kareem Gerges played a prominent role in the celebration by accompanying the children of the Swedish community in Egypt on the piano, helping them perform the event’s traditional songs. This special contribution was made at the request of Mrs. Mehyad Tavakoli, Deputy Ambassador of Sweden in Egypt.
The event provided a valuable opportunity to learn about Swedish culture and strengthen the relationship between CCMUP and the Swedish Embassy. It underscored their shared commitment to building peace and fostering understanding among diverse cultures and religious communities.
