In a continued affirmation of their shared commitment to interfaith dialogue and cooperation, a high-level delegation from the Episcopal/Anglican Diocese of Egypt and the Center of Christian-Muslim Understanding and Partnership (CCMUP) paid a visit to the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, on June 23, 2025, to express their deep gratitude for his unwavering support of joint interreligious initiatives.

The delegation included Archbishop Dr. Samy Fawzy, Archbishop of the Episcopal/Anglican Province of Alexandria; Archbishop Emeritus Dr. Mouneer Hanna, Director of CCMUP; and Rev. Dr. Matthew Anderson, Director of Academic Studies at the Center.

During the meeting, the delegation, led by Archbishop Dr. Samy Fawzy, extended their appreciation to the Grand Imam for his steadfast encouragement of the unique and unprecedented “Journey of Learning” program, an initiative organized by CCMUP in collaboration with Al-Azhar Al-Shareef and other partners to promote deeper understanding and peaceful coexistence among faith communities.

CCMUP organized the 4th round of “A Journey of Learning” from June 23 to 25, 2025. To read more about it, please click here:

Archbishop-Emeritus Dr. Mounir Anis praised the Grand Imam’s critical role in supporting the work of CCMUP, describing it as one of the Church’s most important initiatives for building bridges of peace between followers of different religions.

Archbishop Dr. Samy Fawzy expressed his great joy at the growing relationship between the Episcopal Church and Al-Azhar, emphasizing that CCMUP’s ongoing programs and joint initiatives continue to play a vital role in strengthening this unique interfaith partnership.

For his part, the Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb affirmed the importance of sustaining and expanding the culture of dialogue and collaboration in service of the nation and the promotion of peace and coexistence.

I respect and admire Angela Merkel. She is a great Chancellor. She is a lady of principals. Standing by the truth gave her strength and authority. She confronted international problems and made peace for the nations. She opened her country for refugees against all opposition.
