Sarawak, Malaysia
8 – 14 October 2025

At the invitation of Bishop Donald Jute, Bishop of Sarawak and Brunei, and Chairman of the Anglican Communion Interfaith Commission, Bishop Dr. Mouneer -CCMUP Director and Archbishop-Emeritus of the Anglican Province of Alexandria- went to visit Malaysia to engage with several interfaith communities.

The two leaders reflected on their shared commitment to promoting peace and building bridges between diverse faith communities. Bishop Dr. Mouneer expressed deep admiration for Bishop Donald’s gracious spirit, open heart, and lifelong dedication to interfaith understanding in Malaysia.

During his visit, Bishop Dr. Mouneer met with Muslim religious leaders at MasjidEl Naim, where he was warmly received and engaged in a rich dialogue focused on strengthening mutual understanding and cooperation between Christian and Muslim communities.

He also visited St. Mary’s School in Kuching, where he met with Muslim students and exchanged reflections on coexistence, respect, and shared values in multi-faith societies.

In significant meetings, Bishop Dr. Mouneer held constructive discussions with Mr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, Governor of Sarawak, Malaysia, as well as with President Halima Yacob, former President of Singapore. Both meetings focused on advancing interfaith harmony and building inclusive societies across Asia and beyond.

The visit reaffirmed Bishop Dr. Mouneer’s steadfast commitment to the values of dialogue, respect, partnership, and inclusive citizenship; principles that lie at the heart of the mission of the Centre for Christian-Muslim Understanding and Partnership (CCMUP).

I respect and admire Angela Merkel. She is a great Chancellor. She is a lady of principals. Standing by the truth gave her strength and authority. She confronted international problems and made peace for the nations. She opened her country for refugees against all opposition.
