Cairo, Egypt | August 2 & 4, 2025
The Centre of Christian-Muslim Understanding & Partnership (CCMUP) successfully organized a two-day Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop aimed at equipping a core team with essential communication and facilitation skills for promoting peacebuilding and conflict resolution across Egypt. The intensive session took place on Saturday, August 2, and Monday, August 4, 2025, and marks a critical step in a broader interfaith peace initiative reaching multiple governorates.
The workshop, focused on communication skills in conflict-sensitive settings, was led by Mrs. Nehal Fathy, a seasoned communications expert. The training targeted a diverse team of 10 Christian and Muslim professionals, who will go on to train other teams in El-Minya, Cairo, Alexandria, and Menouf.
Muslim participants from Al-Azhar University included:
- Dr. Ismail Abdallah, President of the Department of Foreign Languages
- Dr. Iman Ayad, Lecturer, Faculty of Humanities
- Dr. Shayma Adly, Preacher and Member of the Fatwa Committee at the Islamic Research Complex
- Ms. Marwa Said, German Language Instructor
Representing CCMUP were:
- Bishop Dr. Mouneer Anis, Director of CCMUP and Archbishop-Emeritus of the Anglican Province of Alexandria
- Rev. Samir Dawoud, Director of Community Initiatives
- Mr. Shady Malak and Mr. Selim Fouad, Peacebuilding Consultants
- Mr. Kareem Gerges, Director of International Partnerships & Communications
- Ms. Joyce Emad, member at CCMUP
The training served as a launching pad for a wider project designed to combat extremism and foster tolerance, inclusive citizenship, and interfaith cooperation at the grassroots level. The initiative will roll out specialized workshops in select governorates, equipping local teams with tools to navigate and transform interreligious and social tensions.
This peacebuilding effort is implemented by CCMUP, in close partnership with Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and the Egyptian Family House, reaffirming a shared national commitment to social cohesion and peaceful coexistence.
Through this collaborative framework, CCMUP continues its mission to strengthen interfaith dialogue and equip community leaders with the capacity to nurture lasting peace across Egyptian society.
