El-Minya, Egypt | Friday 4 July 2025

As part of CCMUP’s ongoing efforts to foster interfaith dialogue and reinforce the values of peaceful coexistence, a delegation from the Anglican Diocese of Egypt and its affiliated Center of Christian-Muslim Understanding and Partnership (CCMUP) visited today Major General Emad Kedwani, Governor of El-Minya.

The meeting aimed to strengthen collaboration between religious and civic institutions in advancing community peace initiatives.

The delegation included:

  • Dr. Samy Fawzy, Archbishop of the Episcopal/Anglican Province of Alexandria
  • Dr. Mouneer Hanna Anis, Archbishop-Emeritus and Director of CCMUP
  • Dr. Mohamed Abou Zeid El Amir, National Coordinator of the Egyptian Family House
  • Mr. Maqar El-Omda, Coordinator of the Egyptian Family House in EL-Minya

Archbishop Dr. Samy Fawzy expressed his deep appreciation to the Governor for the warm reception, praising the fruitful cooperation between the Church and State institutions and the efforts of El-Minya Governorate in promoting societal peace and national unity. He emphasized the essential role of establishing ongoing platforms for dialogue as a cornerstone for building communities rooted in understanding, citizenship, tolerance, and coexistence.

Archbishop-Emeritus Dr. Mouneer Anis presented the key activities of the CCMUP, particularly in the areas of conflict resolution, reconciliation, and capacity-building for dialogue and peace.

For his part, Governor Emad Kedwani welcomed the delegation and underscored the importance of fostering religious tolerance and coexistence as a path toward peaceful living and collective resilience in times of crisis. He stressed that such initiatives instill a sense of belonging and nurture mutual love and respect within society.

The Governor further highlighted the critical role of religious institutions in supporting the state’s efforts to achieve national security and societal stability, calling for greater cooperation and synergy among all sectors in serving the Egyptian people.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the delegation extended its sincere thanks to the Governor, commending his leadership in advancing development and serving the people of El-Minya. The delegates affirmed that such encounters reinforce the values of citizenship and confirm that, despite differences in belief, Egyptians should be united by one goal: the progress, stability, and peace of their nation.

I respect and admire Angela Merkel. She is a great Chancellor. She is a lady of principals. Standing by the truth gave her strength and authority. She confronted international problems and made peace for the nations. She opened her country for refugees against all opposition.
